The old staircase in this traditional Cornish cottage, which has a lovely setting overlooking a creek, didn't make full use of the width of the stairwell and stuck out into the hallway at head banging height.

Tanya designed a completely new staircase with very simple detailing and clean lines for a more contemporary look that didn't feel out of place in a very traditional building.  Small square metal balusters were powder coated in a soft off white and a round oak handrail picked up on the oak flooring on the landing.

A smart Roger Oates stair runner with stripes, carefully pattern matched at the mitred join, adds a little colour.
