The biid logo: unifying the industry
The BIID
logo has been designed to increase recognition, visibility and understanding of
the British Institute of Interior Design
in the public and professional arena. It is a mark of quality, a statement that
your work meets the highest standards of British interior design. As the
Institute grows, so too will our logo grow to become a standard in the
industry.
The logo’s success as a symbol of your quality as an interior designer or
supplier depends on its consistent use across the entire BIID membership. We
encourage all members to use the logo on their websites, marketing materials
and site boards, as well as using your BIID appellation in the press, but we do require that the BIID logo is used consistently
across all platforms.
Are you using the BIID logo correctly? Read on for a list of frequently asked
questions to make sure that you are using the BIID logo to its full potential.
Which logo should I be using?
It is important
to remember that the category of membership to the right-hand side of the BIID
logo is a part of the logo you use, and must be included. It is not a template
to be changed to your own name.
If you are a full
BIID Member, you should be using the Members’ logo, which has the word “Member”
to the right-hand side of the BIID Box. Inclusion of the word “member” is
crucial: you need to let your clients know that you have met the highest
standards in the industry.
If you are an Associate member, the word “Associate” should appear to the
right-hand side of the BIID box. Again, this is crucial: Your work on the BIID
Professional Pathway shows your clients that you consistently meet BIID
standards each year.
Design
Practice Members should use the logo with the words “Design Practice Member” to
the right-hand side of the BIID box.
If you are an Industry Partner, your logo will say “Industry Partner” to the
right-hand side of the BIID box. It is important to let your clients and
specifiers know how you fit in to the BIID; the box on its own does not convey
the high requirements we ask of our Industry Partners.
Can I change the colour of the logo?
There are only two colours you may use – black or white. These will be sent
to you when you join the BIID. It is essential that the logo remains unchanged
in any way as it has been designed for maximum recognition. Changing the colour
of the logo, even to make it fit your website’s own colour scheme, dilutes the
brand power of the logo.
Can I still use the BIDA logo?
The British
Interior Design Association became the British
Institute of Interior Design in 2009. Indeed, the acronym
“BIDA” is now used by another organisation, the British Industrial Design
Association, which means that continued use of the old BIDA logo may cause
confusion. If your website hasn’t been updated since 2009, it may still carry
the BIDA logo, which is no longer recognised or used in the industry. To show
that your work is of the highest quality, make sure that you are up-to-date.
I just want to use the BIID “box”,
without any words beside it – can I crop it out?
The BIID logo was designed in tandem with the membership categories – it
lets your clients know where and how you work in the industry and minimises
confusion. Therefore you may only use the logo that you are sent upon joining
us. Simply featuring the BIID box on your website and marketing materials may
give a false impression of your role in the industry.
The logo you are supplied with by the BIID should not be altered in any way.
You should use it separately from your own name or logo, without merging the
BIID logo with your name or the name of any other organisation.
Remember – the standalone BIID logo is for use only by the BIID itself for use
on Institute materials and sponsorships.
What can I call myself?
We
encourage our members to use their appropriate BIID appellation when
they appear in news articles and in the media. Doing this gives you a
chance to show a wider audience your quality as an interior designer.

the BIID, you are entitled to use the following appellations:
