BIID Shortlisted for Student Award

Published on

The BIID have been shortlisted for a Memcom Excellence award.

The BIID are delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. In a year where there were more applicants than ever before, the Student Design Challenge had to be exceptional to stand out from the crowd.

I am so excited to be shortlisted for this award, fingers crossed for the 30th of September!

Hayley McLennan, Event Organiser

Hayley continues, "Organising the Student Design Challenge and meeting the students every year is a joy. A true sign of success for the challenge has been the enthusiastic response from course leaders and our dedicated mentors who all love taking part again and again, proving that the event is a highlight in our annual calendar.

This year by breaking the mould and taking the challenge online for the first time, we were able to provide an accessible engagement initiative for everyone."

BIID President Lester Bennett, has participated as a mentor or judge in four different Student Design Challenges, and was especially pleased with the shortlisting as the event could so easily have been cancelled.

“The Student Design Challenge has always been an enjoyable, educational and successful day for mentors and students alike. However, in the light of Covid restrictions, setting the event for 2020 proved to be a monumental challenge in itself! Undeterred, Hayley was determined to create an exciting ‘alternative’.

The resulting ‘alternative’ was a brilliantly conceived online version of the challenge which proved to be a resounding success and exceeded all expectations.

This award nomination and shortlist is a well deserved accolade for a creative and superbly organised response.”
