Merit and CPD Award 2019

Merit Award

Each year, the Merit Award is awarded to an Institute member who has particularly excelled in three key criteria: excellence in interior design practice; a contribution to the development of the Institute and a commitment to the wider field of design education. The 2019 Merit award was presented to Karin Verzariu, who the awards committee felt exceeded in all three areas.

Karin trained at the New York School of Interior Design before moving to the UK and setting up her practice, Key Interiors. She has worked in the UK and abroad on a range of commercial and residential projects, including an apartment in Neo Bankside and refurbishments of listed properties designed by John Nash and Robert Adam. Karin’s projects have won the Lighting Design Awards and KBB Review Awards. Karin’s bespoke furniture design was so acclaimed that a few years ago she launched her own furniture company, Black and Key, which creates Art Deco inspired furniture and accessories.

CPD Award

Continuing Professional Development is an essential part of all professions. All BIID Registered Interior Designers are required to undertake an annual CPD requirement to remain a Member, and allows them to keep up to date with the latest developments in a rapidly changing industry.

The CPD Award recognises the BIID Member who has far exceeded the minimum requirement of 20 hours and has gained the most CPD hours in that year. The 2019 recipient of the award was given to Nicola Burt of Nicola Burt Interior Design, who accrued 775 hours in the 2018-2019 membership year.
