Located in the heart of Milan, Palazzo Cordusio – Gran Meliá reopens its doors after a prestigious restoration, transforming the former Generali Assicurazioni headquarters into a five-star hotel. Originally designed in the late 19th century by architect Luca Beltrami, the building—now part of the Gran Meliá collection—embodies the seamless fusion of history and luxury hospitality.
The project’s objective was to enhance the artistic and cultural significance of the building, preserving its historical essence while introducing contemporary design. The renovation, led by Studio Marco Piva, was the result of close collaboration with various architectural and institutional stakeholders.
For this prestigious transformation, Lualdi played a key role in providing doors and passage systems across multiple areas of the hotel, ensuring seamless architectural integration through tailor-made solutions.
Tailor-made design for a five-star experience
The guestroom entrance doors were crafted in the Filorei 60 model, featuring a custom finish supplied by the client and bronze aluminum handles. These doors pay homage to two iconic Lualdi collections, Filo55 and Rasomuro 55s, ensuring perfect stylistic continuity with the interior concept.
Inside the rooms, Rasomuro flush-to-the-wall swing doors were installed for the bathrooms, paired with custom brass handles. Filo 55 doors, connecting between adjoining rooms, also feature bespoke wood finishes, aligning with the sophisticated aesthetic of the hotel.
In the common areas, the Rasoline 55s model in a mirrored finish enhances the restrooms of the ground-floor restaurant and third-floor gym, amplifying spatial perception and luminosity.
A distinctive element can be found on the fifth floor, where the sky bar’s restrooms are enriched by a brushed bronze metal-clad boiserie, integrated with doors in custom wood veneer and bronze-colored handles. This refined detail enhances the ambiance, adding a sense of exclusivity and elegance.
Thanks to its expertise in designing doors for high-end hospitality, Lualdi has contributed to making Palazzo Cordusio – Gran Meliá a symbol of timeless sophistication, tradition, and innovation in the heart of Milan.
