Perched high above the Derbyshire landscape, Riber Castle is a striking 19th-century landmark reimagined for modern living. I was appointed to lead the interior design and furnishing of this exceptional private residence—tasked with breathing new life into the historic fabric of the castle while delivering a refined, contemporary experience throughout.
Balancing architectural grandeur with liveable elegance, I approached the project with sensitivity and boldness in equal measure. Carefully curated finishes and furnishings were introduced to honour the building’s legacy while creating contrast and freshness. The vast stone volumes were softened with layered textiles, warm timber flooring, and sculptural lighting, bringing intimacy to even the most dramatic of spaces.
Each room was individually styled with a distinct palette and personality, while maintaining a cohesive visual rhythm throughout. Statement pieces were mixed with understated classics, and every corner was thoughtfully considered—from bespoke upholstery to final styling touches.
The result is a rare blend of past and present: a space that retains the weight and presence of its heritage, yet feels effortlessly modern and beautifully lived in.
