An eclectic mix of materials was chosen for this kitchen designed for an open-plan living space in a period house on the outskirts of Manchester. Working with Artisan Interiors ltd, our team developed the scheme with a refined industrial vibe that is echoed throughout the space with simple clean lines and natural materials.

  • The oak doors and framework were heavily wire-brushed and treated with a dark stain to add warmth and a 'raw' texture to contrast with the smooth finish of the stainless steel appliances and the brass grip rail and bar top.

  • A generous double sink on the rear wall is under-mounted below the quartz worktop with plenty of space for preparation and draining either side. An antiqued mirrored backsplash reflects the natural light and enhances the feeling of spaciousness.

  • Wall cabinets above have steel tube and mesh doors with brass hinges and detailing giving a subtly defused view of the crockery stored within them.

  • The island provides a natural division between the kitchen and the rest of the dining and living area. It is also the focal point for the cooking with a large Gaggenau gas hob and neat extractor that emerges from the worktop when needed but tucks away out of sight when not.

  • To continue the theme into the dining area we designed and made a marble topped sideboard to match the kitchen wall cabinets to store serving dishes and additional crockery.

  • For the separate boot room and utility just off the living space, a darker stain was used for the simple flat panelled oak doors with practical long handles in brass.
