Six by Nico in Birmingham forms part of a wider portfolio of design-led restaurant interiors where material specification plays a central role in shaping atmosphere and performance. Delivered in collaboration with Studio Two, the project brief centred on reinforcing the restaurant’s industrial heritage while introducing a refined, contemporary finish that supports a high-quality dining experience.
Ted Todd’s commercial specification team worked closely with the designers to develop a flooring solution aligned with both the aesthetic and functional demands of the space. Dark tones and wide plank formats were selected to complement the interior scheme, enhancing the sense of depth and grounding the overall design.
The final specification was Malting from the Warehouse collection, a richly toned European oak floor defined by natural variation, including knots and sapwood, which introduce subtle movement across the surface. This material choice reinforces the project’s industrial character while maintaining a controlled, design-led finish suited to a hospitality environment.
From a performance perspective, the engineered construction ensures durability under sustained footfall, with a 15mm thickness, 4mm wear layer, and hardened lacquered finish providing resistance to wear and spills. These technical qualities are essential in a fast-paced restaurant setting, where longevity and ease of maintenance are critical considerations.
The project reflects a careful balance between concept and practicality, demonstrating how considered material selection can support both design intent and operational demands. As part of an expanding portfolio of hospitality projects, Six by Nico reinforces Ted Todd’s role in delivering flooring solutions that respond precisely to the needs of contemporary restaurant environments.
