Twickenham Apartment Project

The whole Origins Design team worked in close collaboration with Karen Oliver, BIID Associate Member, to execute a comprehensive package of bespoke joinery, cabinetry and custom-made upholstery for this three bedroom apartment in Twickenham. The brief required high-end solutions tailored to maximise functionality within the footprints of each room and a combination of rich materials, elegant detailing and considered layering that would celebrate the property’s Victorian heritage and tie the whole scheme together.

Due to the restricted floorspace and the need for a luxury feel to reflect the Victorian style of the property, the kitchen required bespoke cabinetry. To prevent the compact kitchen from feeling heavy, we used a combination of warm dark wood and spray-painted bespoke cabinetry with minimal detailing, paired with open shelving.

To optimise every inch of the dining space in front of the window at the end of the kitchen, we collaborated closely with Karen on the design and manufacture of two fitted two bespoke upholstered dining banquettes and paired these with a custom oval dining table with a central pedestal in a matte black finish. 

We crafted generous, full-height bespoke wardrobes for the master suite with internal shelving, hanging space and LED lighting. The wardrobe door fronts feature double beading detail, long brass handles and soft close mechanisms. Spray-painted one subtle shade darker than the wall colour, the wardrobes blend beautifully into the interior architecture and overall scheme.

In the second bedroom, the fitted wardrobe design echoes that of the master suite, but with the colour scheme thoughtfully inverted to create a sense of continuity throughout the apartment. Here, the installation required creative problem-solving: we worked closely with the on-site plumbing contractor to design the wardrobe around an existing boiler, adapting the interior joinery on-site for a perfect fit.

For the third bedroom which doubles as a study, we manufactured a compact bespoke sofa bed. By incorporating narrow arms into the upholstery design, we kept the overall footprint to a minimum while maintaining maximum comfort.

The apartment features two custom bathroom vanity units made by Origins Design and designed to deliver luxury within tight spaces.
