The Anna Whitehead Prize
Working sustainably is a key factor for judges when deciding who to shortlist and who to win the BIID Interior Design Awards. Every year, there are projects that go above and beyond with their eco-conscious thinking. The Anna Whitehead prize, awarded annually, recognises outstanding projects from the years awards that held sustainability as a core value throughout the project. This year, entrants can opt in to consideration for the Anna Whitehead prize.
Anna was a longstanding BIID member and one of the UK’s foremost experts on sustainability in interior practice. Following a breast cancer diagnosis, Anna sadly passed away in 2021. The BIID has named its Sustainability Prize after Anna to honour her legacy and recognise her contributions to the field.

2024 Winner - Studio 9 Design
South West and Wales region
It was the choice of materials that made the Cwm Tawel Estate stand out to judges, materials selected were eco-conscious and locally sourced. The project was an exceptional example of blending regional heritage with modern design. The result is an environment that proves you can have luxury and be kind to the environment.
2023 Winner - Zebra Projects
Scotland and Northern Ireland region
NEOM Flagship Store at St. James Quarter made such an impact on the judges that they expressed a desire for all retail projects to follow this model as standard. Both Zebra Projects and NEOM worked to B Corp values, prioritising ethical sourcing and ensuring reusability of furniture choices.
2022 Winner - Pfeiffer Design
South East region
The Design Studio, Chapel Barn project is situated within an agricultural area of an area of outstanding natural beauty. The judges were impressed with the reuse of an existing building that was not only beautiful but included retrofitting sustainable technologies such as heat pumps and rainwater harvesting.
