What are the judges looking for?

The individuals on both the Awards Assessment Panel and the Judging Panel are all experts in their field, have a passion for great interior design and an expert understanding of a winning project. They are looking for outstanding examples of interior design projects from across the UK. The rigorous judging criteria will assess successful meeting of a design brief, the ability to develop creative design solutions and technical skills.

Judging will assess how you (the designer/design team) used your creativity and design skills to respond to the project brief. They will consider how you arrived at the agreed design solution, the design process and the success of the finished project. They will consider the key challenges you faced on the project and how you addressed them. Judges will look at what makes the completed project successful and consider the creativity and innovation of the project, based on evidence from the supporting materials. They will also consider how sustainability was incorporated into the design, specifiying and construction of the project.

What is the Entry Criteria

  • Entries are invited from both BIID members and non-members
  • Interior design projects can be entered from all sectors, including residential, commercial, and public sector projects.
  • The date that the project was completed and handed over to the client must be within the qualifying period of 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2021. Any projects completed before or after those dates will not be able to enter.
  • All projects shortlisted for the BIID Awards will be visited in person by expert assessors. If your project is shortlisted, you must be available to tour the project with members of our Awards Assessment Panel at an agreed date in May or June 2022. While every effort will be made to find a date that is convenient for you but if one cannot be agreed, your project will unfortunately be withdrawn from the competition.
  • You will need to have permission from your client to enter the project for an Award and for the expert assessors to visit the property with you, if it is shortlisted.

Before you enter the awards, please read the full terms and conditions.

How do I enter?

The entry process is straight forward and uses a simple to use online platform.

  1. Register on our awards platform. Once registered, you will be given access so you can create your entry, then add to it in your own time and go back to edit it right up until the entry deadline using the login details that you created on registration.
  2. Select the regional category that you want to enter. The BIID Awards has been created to recognise individual projects, so you will be asked to enter your project in the region where it is located.
  3. Provide basic details about your practice and your project including the project size and date it was completed.
  4. Give us an overview of your design process. How are the projects judged?

Every shortlisted project will be visited in person by expert assessors from our Awards Assessment Panel. Once this round of judging has been completed, all shortlisted projects will be submitted for final judging by a separate group, our Judging Panel, to ensure the most rigorous and fair judging process. They will judge both the information supplied by entrants, in addition to feedback from the Awards Assessment Panel.
