Case Study 8: Bespoke Architectural Studio Furniture

  • Project Title: Premium Custom Studio Joinery for Modular Production Suite
  • Division: Akustak®

The Challenge

A professional music production studio engineered with an Akustak® modular wall system in London’s Leyton required highly specialised workspace infrastructure. The client, a professional DJ and music producer, needed technical studio furniture that could accommodate complex rack-mount hardware and mixing equipment. The primary design challenge was creating heavy-duty furniture that combined ergonomic utility with strict aesthetic continuity, matching the timber wall panelling of the surrounding acoustic architecture.

The Solution

Akustak® designed and built a coordinated suite of bespoke technical studio furniture, including a main mixing desk, specialised rack-space storage units, and a dedicated writing desk. To achieve material integration, each custom piece was fabricated using a stained birch-veneered plywood carcass, faced with stained oak-veneered birch-ply surface panelling, and detailed with stained solid oak quarter-round mouldings. The structural layouts were engineered to optimise user workflow and equipment cable management while remaining free from acoustic vibration.

The Design Outcome

The project delivered a highly functional, stable, and ergonomic production setup tailored precisely to the artist's technical hardware configuration. By employing premium cabinet-making methods and matching timber stains, the custom furniture pieces function as a direct extension of the Akustak® studio architecture, preserving a unified and luxurious interior aesthetic.
