Clapham Luxe

This was the first project for a client in South West London. A large 5 bedroom house requiring a complete overhaul, our client was looking for a completely new feel to their home. The brief was to totally transform the entire property, and we felt there was an opportunity to do this without starting from scratch everywhere.

Some pieces of furniture were re-upholstered and re-housed, others took on a new lease of life when installed into a newly re-decorated space. Brand new colour schemes, wall finishes, upholstery and styling throughout gave this home an incredible new look - uplifting it from a grey box to a very glamorous and ultra-luxe tactile space.

" Having a growing list of minor building and cosmetic issues last February I realised what stopped me addressing them was a lack of time to coordinate and only Google to serve as a little black book of tradespeople. It felt daunting and I feared getting ripped off. I didn't want a reenactment of that film The Money Pit!

I called on Dee and asked for help. She came promptly to quote with an assessing eye and a notepad ready to record answers to her many important questions that already convinced me I was going to save money and get a better result than attempting to go it alone and I was not disappointed. I thought I knew what I wanted, the mood board and her own ideas based very individually on my personal style and lifestyle gave me several eureka moments. Dee knew what I wanted but couldn't, without design skills, articulate.

Her quote was detailed and clear. The budget discussed was respected and kept to rigidly by Dee, I was less disciplined but certainly not encouraged by Dee to overspend. She held my hand through the entire process and kept tradespeople at an arms length from me when it suited and brought me or them more into the process when it benefitted. I found her extremely sensitive to my happiness and satisfaction throughout and any issues were dealt with immediately and without awkwardness. For example poor wall papering was remedied with a new decorator on site the next day at no extra cost. All snagging was managed promptly and without argument and invoicing was clear to the end.

I absolutely love how velvet orange has transformed my home. I would not hesitate recommending them to anyone I know. I plan to enlist their services again to project manage a basement dig next year. In fact I wouldn't even be brave enough to embark on a project like that without Dee. I also know from experience that using a designer and project manager like Dee saves money - it's an economic decision rather than a luxury. "
