An 87-year-old traditional building that has gained new brilliance as a curated hotel.
This house is a villa where the owner's family has continued to record its history. Several generations have lived here, and the dark, small, partitioned floor plan is filled with much furniture and belongings accumulated over the years. It has become a place where even family members are reluctant to stay.
Bold and detailed planning was carried out to address the problems that old houses tend to have as part of a renovation project led by an interior designer.
As a result, the spatial relevance and traffic flow were dramatically improved, and the house was transformed into a light-filled space where the family could gather and spend time together. The collaboration of the family's collection and traditional crafts, along with contemporary furniture and art pieces, has fused tradition and innovation, creating a design that will connect generations to the future.
Above all, it was the master carpenters, plasterers, washers, joiners, and upholsterers who were responsible for traditional architecture that made this possible. The skills of the new and old masters blended naturally as if they were breathing in unison. The textures of the wood, bamboo, Juraku walls, and paper create a breathtakingly beautiful look.
Japanese houses are gorgeous.
We feel relieved that we have been able to restore this beautiful old Japanese house in this manner, and we couldn't be happier to have been entrusted with this job.
