Private View: The Rosewood Hotel, London
Rosewood
London is set at the heart of London’s High Holborn, between the capital’s
entertainment and financial districts.
Originally named Chancery Court, the flamboyant Edwardian building, designed in
the early 20th century by H. Percy Monckton, was initially occupied
by the Pearl Assurance company, and underwent several expansions in its first
fifty years to become what it is today.
The subsequent transformation of this historic building from Imperial-era offices into a five star hotel in 1989 was carried out under the guidance of English Heritage, which lists the principal facades, as well as the interiors of the former East and West Banking Halls (now Holborn Dining Room and the Bar, respectively) and the Grand Staircase as the hotel’s significant heritage features.
This tour of the hotel will be given by the project manager of its restoration, who will provide an overview of the project and will be on hand to answer any questions.
