Over the years, a wide range of projects have received awards from the BIID. So long as the design practice is based in the UK, it doesn’t matter whether the project is big or small, rural or city centre, you’re eligible to enter. BIID members can also enter from anywhere in the world, just one of the many reasons it's great to be part of the UK's only professional institute for interior design.

Need some inspiration? View just a small selection of the many brilliant residential projects we’ve celebrated over the years.

The Vawdrey House – Greenwich House

Interior Of The Year 2022

Vawdrey House Living Area

In 2022, The Vawdrey House set the bar for residential projects when they took home the inaugural Interior of the Year award. Without a doubt, this stunning project paved the way for the many brilliant residential interiors that followed over the next four years of the Interior Design Awards.

The Vawdrey House transformed the layout of this city home, creating a space to relax once the working day is done. The clients both work busy jobs so needed a space that could work as both a sanctuary and a place to entertain.

The project was applauded by judges for its meticulous attention to detail, creativity and professionalism in its design and finish.

Casa More Interiors and Studio Rossi Ltd - Kenilworth Master Suite

Shortlisted For Midlands & East Anglia In 2025

Kenilworth Master suite

Casa More and Rossi Interiors worked together on this comforting master suite in Kenilworth. At just 38sqm, this is one of the smallest projects to have made the shortlist but is proof that good design exists at all sizes.

Although Georgian in style, the house was recently built. The balance of contemporary and cozy comfort can be seen throughout the space. The project faced budgetary challenges due to delays but still delivered a space with thoughtful design details that the client can enjoy at the end of a long day.

By centering the design around a large window, the designers were able to reduce the need for artificial light. Timeless pieces were selected to ensure durability for years to come.

Heckmann Design – Glasgow Tenement

Shortlisted Scotland and Northern Ireland 2024

Glasgow Tenement Bookcases

There are few things more iconic to Glasgow’s architectural style than the rows of period apartments that are  tenement’s. Heckmann Design’s involvement started with the BIID Referral Service. From there, they were tasked with updating this apartment utilising colour drawn from the surrounding Glasgow heritage.

Clever use of joinery fulfilled the client’s wishes for a space that maximised storage solutions. Rooms were laid out to make the best use of natural light with one side of the property brighter than the other.

Heckmann Design also worked to improve heating efficiency for the period property as well as reusing the client's existing furniture. This helped ensure they were working sustainably.

Studio 502 – Vila Adliya D1

Shortlisted - International 2025

Colourful Villa Kitchen

British interior Designers have made their mark all around the globe. We acknowledged that in 2025 when we introduced the international category. Studio 502 delivered this tranquil apartment in the Adliya district of Bahrain.

The apartment utilised the client's favourite colour, cobalt blue, to create a cool, calming space. Studio 502 had to work to strict time requirements to deliver a project that met the clients changing lifestyle needs.

Despite the challenge of minimal structural changes being allowed, Studio 502 used clever design to improve the flow of the living space. There were further challenges in the form of working at a distance.

Pringle and Pringle – Isle of Arran

Winner - Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales 2023

Pringle and Pringle house

The team at Pringle and Pringle transformed what was three deteriorating apartments into a significantly sized multi-generational home.

The house needed to be sociable for a big family while still providing a retreat and the layout was carefully considered. The property now features two master bedrooms, as well as studies for working from home.

Pringle and Pringle drew upon the surrounding beautiful landscape in the colour palette and material selections. They also decided upon an upside down house layout so that living areas can make best use of the stunning surrounds.
