BIID Awards Sponsor: Havwoods
Paul Moody, Global Marketing & Digital Director at Havwoods, shares insights into the brand’s milestone 50th year

What does being Headline Sponsors of the BIID Awards mean for Havwoods?
Havwoods returning as Headline Sponsor of the BIID Interior Design Awards for the fourth consecutive year, really does reflect our ongoing commitment to the UK interior design community. We’re extremely proud to work with the BIID and, over the last four years we’ve seen the awards grow and evolve into an integral and hugely inspiring part of the UK design scene.
Although we’re primarily a supplier with years of experience curating premium wood surfaces from across the globe, we also see ourselves as a design partner for our clients. Much of our product development is driven by requests from within the design and build industry, and our teams are passionate about working hand-in-hand with clients to help them achieve their exact ambitions and aspirations. Our involvement with the BIID keeps Havwoods at the epicentre of British interior design and closely connected to what the community wants and needs.
Our approach has always been innovative and design-led – it’s been that way for the last fifty years. Many of our clients have worked with us for decades because they trust the lasting quality and advanced engineering of our products. We have a remarkable heritage dating back to the 1970’s, but Havwoods is equally about looking ahead – sourcing timber responsibly and staying at the forefront of emerging trends. Being part of the BIID Awards is a key and exciting moment in our annual calendar and keeps us connected to the heart of British design.

Why is 2025 an exciting year for Havwoods?
This September Havwoods turned fifty, making 2025 a milestone year for our brand. We’ve been celebrating ‘fifty years of Wood that Works’ across our global locations, and it feels especially meaningful as it highlights half a century of design-led timber innovation, collaboration and craftsmanship.
Alongside honouring our heritage, this year has been very much about innovation. We’ve always been a business that keeps moving forward, and throughout 2025 we’ve launched groundbreaking new products alongside bold new directions for the Havwoods brand. In April, we introduced the UK’s first design-led collection of Bfl-s1 fire-rated engineered wood flooring at the Fire Safety Event in Birmingham. Independently tested and certified to meet EN 13501-1 Bfl-s1 classification, FlameLESS was developed in response to growing demand from architects, designers and specifiers. This revolutionary product bridges the gap between aesthetic appeal and regulatory compliance in engineered wood flooring and is a genuine game-changer for large-scale projects.
We were also proud to launch Lateral by Havwoods, our first-ever furniture brand, at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week. Featuring high-spec one-piece kitchens, tailor-made XL wooden tables and unique tabletops crafted from enormous timber slices, Lateral reflects the same design excellence that has defined Havwoods for decades.
2025 has been a momentous year for Havwoods, and we’ll be continuing to celebrate our fiftieth anniversary right up until we turn 51 in September 2026 – so watch this space for even more exciting initiatives and product launches!

Which new directions and innovations are influencing the future of wood surfaces?
Two important themes shaping the future of wood surfaces are innovation and sustainability, and at Havwoods these are integral to each another. For some time now, our clients around the world have been asking for products that not only look great but also meet the highest environmental standards.
Last year we launched our exciting, eco-friendly surface TreeAzzo, and in 2025 we’ve seen its popularity explode. Inspired by traditional terrazzo but re-imagined with wood, it is FSC-certified and handmade from eco-friendly resin mixed with wood chip wastage from the woodworking industry. TreeAzzo is a unique, eye-catching surface, perfect for injecting colour and the intrinsic beauty of nature into interiors – it is fast becoming a favourite with designers in the UK, particularly in hospitality and residential projects. By transforming waste and underutilised resources into high-performance surfaces like TreeAzzo, we’re proud to be introducing sustainable wood innovations to the industry whilst unlocking endless new design possibilities.

More broadly, timber as a material sits at the heart of Havwoods’ ‘Wood that Works’ offering. It is a beautiful, sustainable resource that not only creates surfaces ideal for all applications but also enhances wellness and brings lasting beauty into aspirational interior projects. Sustainability is a huge driving factor in our industry, with ever-increasing demand for transparency, certifications and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). At Havwoods we work closely with our global suppliers, embedding robust environmental criteria to ensure our timber is ethically and sustainably sourced, conducting regular supplier audits to ensure ongoing environmental compliance. Our focus on sustainability is a long-term commitment embedded within every team across Havwoods, we have ambitious carbon reduction targets and are working towards Net Zero, with a multi-point carbon reduction action plan. These aren’t just milestones for us, they reflect a mindset of constant progress, environmental responsibility, and reinvestment in what matters most: our products, our people and our planet.
Looking ahead, we see the industry moving towards even more circular, innovative approaches - combining advanced engineering with responsible sourcing to create products that inspire while safeguarding the future of our forests. Without a doubt, Havwoods committed to keeping beautiful natural wood at the top of the list for premium, performance-led materials within the built environment.
