Hampstead Townhouse

Cooling a Hampstead family home with Calibre Climate, Ambigram Architects, Sara Fenn Interiors and Produk Construction

On this project, air conditioning and mechanical ventilation were developed to sit within a late-Victorian refurbishment shaped by a modernist interior language of warm tones and textured finishes. The design intent was to keep the system as discreet and visually controlled as possible, with particular attention given to how equipment could be absorbed into joinery and wall voids rather than appearing as separate technical elements.

In the media room, the fan coil was concealed within the TV joinery unit, with supply air delivered through a discreet slot above the television so that the installation could be absorbed into the fitted furniture.

In the lounge and principal bedroom, bespoke joinery units were used to house the fan coils, with air introduced and returned through neat slots formed in the top surface and plinth respectively.

This approach allowed the system to work within the architectural language of the rooms, using the joinery itself to accommodate both equipment and air paths while keeping visible intervention to a minimum.
