Case Study 5: Heritage Commercial Live Room & Studio

  • Project Title: Premium Music Live Room and Editing Suite at Tobacco Dock
  • Division: Mute Soundproofing®

The Challenge

The creation of "The Rattle" music venue, located within the historic Tobacco Dock in London's Wapping, presented an extraordinary architectural challenge. The project required the installation of high-performance acoustic music production spaces, including a main live room and an editing suite with an integrated vocal booth. Because the venue is housed within a celebrated Grade I listed building, the entire soundproofing system had to deliver extreme commercial-grade noise isolation while strictly adhering to heritage conservation guidelines and respecting the sensitive historic fabric.

The Solution

Mute Soundproofing® engineered and built a comprehensive architectural acoustic solution tailored to the historic surroundings. The structural intervention featured independent, twin-frame acoustic walls to provide decoupling from the original structure. To complement and respect the Grade I listed architecture, bespoke timber ceiling trusses were introduced to span the space. The environment was then acoustically conditioned using premium, custom fabric-wrapped sound absorption panels to control internal reverberation.

The Design Outcome

The project successfully delivered a cutting-edge, acoustically optimised commercial music venue and editing facility. By marrying advanced noise control engineering with heritage-sensitive construction methods, the installation preserved the raw industrial character and architectural significance of the venue while offering world-class performance.
