LAKE WINDERMERE | COMPLETE INTERIOR TRANSFORMATION
Interior Architecture | Spatial Reconfiguration | Bespoke Residential Design
Occupying an exceptional position overlooking Lake Windermere, this private holiday residence presented an opportunity to completely reinvent a dated 1960s property while retaining its original external appearance.
Planning restrictions prevented alterations to the building's exterior, making the transformation of its internal architecture fundamental to the success of the project.
Martin Nealon undertook a comprehensive redesign, stripping the property back to its internal structure and entirely reconfiguring the interior to create a contemporary lakeside residence.
The original arrangement of rooms was reconsidered to improve circulation, functionality and the relationship between the living spaces. Particular attention was given to maximising the property's outstanding views across Lake Windermere, allowing the surrounding landscape to become an integral part of the interior experience.
Natural maple and limestone formed the foundation of the design, combining the warmth and character of timber with the understated elegance of natural stone. These materials were carried throughout the residence, creating architectural continuity between the principal living areas, bedrooms and circulation spaces.
Bespoke joinery, individually designed architectural features, contemporary glazing and carefully integrated lighting introduced a refined, cohesive aesthetic. The redesigned staircase, specialist wall finishes and integrated entertainment features demonstrate the attention given to both architectural detail and everyday functionality.
The bedrooms were reimagined to take full advantage of the lakeside setting, incorporating bespoke furnishings and carefully considered layouts that balance comfort, privacy and uninterrupted views.
The completed transformation demonstrates how intelligent interior architecture can fundamentally change the character and functionality of an existing building, even where planning restrictions prevent external alterations.
Without changing the building's exterior, Martin created an entirely new living environment within its original structure, demonstrating that exceptional residential design begins with understanding and resolving the space itself.
