LAKE WINDERMERE | PRIVATE SPA & LANDSCAPE DESIGN

Set within the grounds of a private residence overlooking Lake Windermere, this project involved the transformation of a steeply sloping landscape into a series of carefully designed outdoor living, leisure and entertaining spaces.

The central feature was a bespoke spa structure integrated into the hillside, incorporating an innovative mechanical lifting system that allows a concealed hot tub to rise into position, providing uninterrupted panoramic views across Lake Windermere.

Beneath the elevated spa area, steps lead to a lower level housing a private steam room, shower and changing facilities, together with discreetly incorporated storage.

The challenging terrain required considerable technical planning and construction expertise. During excavation, substantial granite deposits were encountered, significantly increasing the complexity of the groundworks. The completed scheme demonstrates how difficult site conditions can be successfully accommodated without compromising the original design intent.

The surrounding gardens were reconfigured to create distinct yet interconnected outdoor rooms. These include an extensively equipped outdoor kitchen, dedicated dining and entertaining areas, secluded seating terraces and thoughtfully positioned relaxation spaces.

Natural stone walling, carefully detailed timber elements and considered planting establish a strong connection with the surrounding Lake District landscape, while contemporary architectural features provide a distinctive contrast.

The completed project reflects Angel Martin Design's approach to treating interior architecture, exterior spaces and landscape as an integrated whole, demonstrating the importance of practical design resolution alongside architectural creativity.

Rather than considering the garden as a separate element, the design extends the living environment beyond the house, creating a cohesive private retreat that responds directly to the property's exceptional setting.
