Modular Broadcast & Media Set Architecture
Case Study 9: Modular Broadcast & Media Set Architecture
- Project Title: Circular Modular Podcast Studios for High-Profile Media Platforms
- Division: Akustak®
The Challenge
Rapidly expanding digital media platforms and investment companies require specialised, high-performance recording environments that can adapt to changing production schedules and location leases. The primary architectural challenge involved creating a series of broadcast sets for prominent media platforms, including Steven Bartlett's “Diary of a CEO” studio in Shoreditch, alongside open podcast sets for Davina McCall's “Begin Again” and Paul C. Brunson's “We Need to Talk”. These spaces required tailored acoustic control suitable for high-density multi-camera video production, without generating traditional, single-use construction waste or leaving permanent structural alterations in commercial buildings.
The Solution
Akustak® deployed its patented modular wall architectures to build turnkey acoustic environments tailored to each specific production format. For the “Diary of a CEO” studio, a twin independent frame studio configuration was installed to provide sound isolation from the surrounding urban area. For the open sets of “Begin Again” and “We Need to Talk”, single-faced frame configurations were engineered to provide precise acoustic conditioning, controlling internal reverberation and audio reflections. Proving the mechanical asset value of circular design, these systems were engineered for deconstruction, allowing the modular panels to be uninstalled and relocated to new facilities without structural loss.
The Design Outcome
The project established a series of premium digital broadcast sets optimised for multi-camera video production. By tailoring the system to deliver high-performance sound isolation for enclosed spaces and precise reverberation control for open sets, the installations achieved specialised acoustic environments while completely avoiding legacy construction waste.
