Launch of new CPD auditing system

The way members record CPD will be relaunched following a review of industry best practice

The BIID recently undertook a review of how we ask our members to track and record their annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement, including looking at what is best practice across other professional bodies. As a result of this review, we have decided to move from our current system of requiring all members to submit their annual log of hours to an audit system whereby a random sample of members is selected and only they are asked to submit their log.

Why the change?

Many other professional bodies, large and small, have adopted this ‘audit’ model of CPD. As membership numbers grow, this enables organisations to keep the administrative burden of CPD tracking manageable while still ensuring compliance. The BIID will be starting with a 5% sample of members required to submit their CPD record for the year, but this, of course, can be adjusted up or down over time, retaining flexibility. This model will also enable the staff team to offer more personalised, in-depth support to the members selected for the audit, to ensure that submitting their hours is as stress free as possible.

What it means for BIID Registered Interior Designers

There is absolutely no action required for members to take at this time – they are asked to continue record their CPD hours using their current preferred method. Further information about CPD hours and recording can be found here. If you are member selected for the audit, we will be in touch with detailed instructions and you will be given plenty of time to submit your CPD record.
