The Solid Wood Flooring Company project
South Bank Place, Building 5 Penthouses
The Solid Wood Flooring Company supplied flooring for the flagship penthouses at South Bank Place, Building 5, part of one of London’s most prominent riverside developments. Working with Canary Wharf Group, McAleer & Rushe, and TCS, the brief was to deliver a flooring solution that reflected the exclusivity of the interiors while also meeting the practical demands of modern apartment living.
The specified product was a prime-grade basketweave parquet in the English Heritage Weave Bare Timber Oak finish, developed in a larger format to sit comfortably within the generous scale of the penthouse spaces. This was important to the overall design scheme, as a smaller weave would not have carried the same visual presence across the open-plan interiors.
Performance was equally important. The floor needed to be compatible with underfloor heating, offer strong resistance to wear and staining, and maintain a refined appearance in a high-value residential setting. By working closely with the wider project team from the early design stages, The Solid Wood Flooring Company was able to supply a product that matched the intended aesthetic while improving the technical specification and reducing cost.
The finished result brings warmth, texture, and architectural character to the penthouse interiors, while also delivering a reported cost saving of around 25% compared with the alternative supplier originally under consideration. The project is a strong example of how flooring specification can support both design ambition and commercial value in luxury residential development.
