The Solid Wood Flooring Company project
University of Liverpool School of Architecture
The Solid Wood Flooring Company supplied and installed engineered natural oak flooring for the University of Liverpool School of Architecture, delivering a solution that balanced architectural quality with long-term durability in a high-traffic academic environment. The project required a flooring finish that would complement the clean, contemporary character of the interior while performing reliably under daily use.
A key feature of the scheme was the decision to install the flooring at a 45-degree angle, creating a stronger sense of movement and reinforcing the geometry of the space. This layout added visual interest while demanding a high level of technical precision, particularly across open areas, thresholds, and transitions between adjoining spaces.
The floor was fully bonded to a raised access floor system, which required careful substrate preparation, adhesive specification, moisture control, and accurate setting out. Engineered oak was selected for its dimensional stability and suitability for commercial and educational interiors, offering a practical alternative to solid timber where structural performance and consistency are essential.
The finished result is a warm, cohesive oak surface that softens the architectural lines of the building while maintaining a disciplined, professional aesthetic. This project demonstrates how engineered wood flooring can meet both the design ambitions and technical demands of contemporary education environments.
