The Vault — Alderley Edge, Cheshire

The Vault is the conversion of a Victorian townhouse from office accommodation into a contemporary home. The brief called for connected living spaces, a private principal suite and a basement dedicated to entertaining. Limited daylight, historic alterations and a controlled budget shaped the design response.

On the ground floor, a bespoke kitchen, dining area and sitting room form a sociable interior. Panelling, cornices and tall skirting boards complement the building’s character, while an arched metal-framed door introduces a contemporary detail. Reflective surfaces and layered lighting bring depth to the spaces.

The former top-floor staff kitchen became a bedroom suite with a bespoke dressing room and generous en-suite. Below, the basement was reconfigured to accommodate a bar, small cinema, guest WC and utility room. Carefully planned joinery and coordinated finishes give each floor a distinct atmosphere within a unified home.
