Business Planning & Strategic Clarity for Interior Designers

Event date

Learn how strategic business planning tells you: what to post; how much to charge; and where to find the best clients.

ABOUT
This session addresses business planning as a foundational operating skill for residential interior designers, rather than a one-off document or aspirational exercise. It examines how a lack of strategic clarity leads to many of the challenges designers experience: inconsistent income, reactive decision-making, misaligned clients, and difficulty prioritising effort.

Using a clear, practical framework, the session shows how effective planning connects vision, commercial reality, and daily decision-making.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Participants will:

  • Understand why strategic clarity is a foundational requirement for running a successful design practice, and how a lack of it drives reactive decision-making, misaligned clients, and inconsistent commercial outcomes.
  • Be able to describe the core purpose of their business, including what it is designed to deliver, how it makes money, and whom it serves.
  • Learn how to translate vision and ambition into clear strategic choices, aligning services, pricing, and client type with realistic commercial goals rather than vague intent.
  • Gain a practical framework for setting priorities and targets, enabling more confident leadership, clearer decision-making, and sustained momentum over time.

WHAT YOU WILL LEAVE WITH

  • A clear understanding of what a working business plan contains - and what it is for.
  • A worksheet and AI-assisted prompt framework to help you build your plan independently.
  • Practical language to articulate your business purpose, commercial model, and ideal client – these are the building blocks of consistent marketing, confident pricing, and better client fit.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This session is for:

  • Residential interior designers who are running - or preparing to run - their own practice, and who want to move from reactive decision-making to purposeful, strategic leadership of their business.
  • Particularly relevant for designers who find themselves asking questions such as What should I post on social media?, How should I structure or price my services?, and How do I attract better clients?, and who sense that the answers lie in developing a clearer business strategy.
  • No prior business planning experience is required.
