Museum of the Home Breakfast and Tour

Event date

Event description

Join the BIID for a private tour of the museum and meet your incoming BIID President

BIID President Elect Mathew Freeman invites BIID members on a visit to the Museum of the Home (formerly The Geffrye Museum) to hear from Assistant Curator Louis Platman all about the museum’s recent redevelopment and the many ways in which the concept of home is explored in their galleries and gardens.

As incoming President, Matt is looking forward to meeting our members over a networking breakfast before enjoying the tour with you.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This tour will visit the Museum’s new Home Galleries that delve more into how homes have been made, kept, and lived in over the past 400 years, as well as the much-loved Rooms Through Time which have been refreshed during the redevelopment.

Find out how the new Victorian Room was researched and put together to reflect a middle-class main living space in 1870, including the wallpaper, carpet, and fabric sourcing. Afterwards, feel free to explore the galleries and gardens at your own pace.

Programme:

9:20am - arrive for registration

9.30am - networking breakfast of fruit, pastries, and muesli

10.00am - meet the curator and embark on the tour

11.00am – explore the remaining galleries and gardens at your own pace

WHAT YOU WILL LEAVE WITH

  • Meet your incoming President, Matt Freeman
  • Find out more about the home from the 1600s to the present day
  • Be inspired by the architecture and gardens of the former Alms House
