Smartphone Photography for Interior Designers
The impact of smartphone technology has changed the world over the last decade, with how we communicate, interact, and react to the environments around us.
One of the biggest leaps in this technology is the rise of smartphone photography. No longer the realm of the professional or dedicated tourist, everyone now has access to powerful megapixel equipment in the palm of their hand.
The lens may be ready, but are you? The BIID invites interior designers to explore the possibilities of smartphone photography in this interactive workshop with professional photographer Jenny Kaye.
Jenny will be discussing how to harness basic photography theory and couple it with in camera techniques to elevate your interiors on screen.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Over three parts, guests will be briefly introduced to photography theory and camera techniques, before moving on to the practical session to put theory into practice and concluding with a group review.
Part 1
- Intro - Smartphone v DSLR
- Phone Functions - What do all the knobs and buttons do?
- Photographic techniques - Straightforward techniques for ensuring you capture the best possible image
- Editing photos - How to enhance your photos super quickly; How to edit photos if you want to do more – using external apps
- External apps - Jenny’s favourite external aps for photos
Part 2
- Practical – attendees will be set loose across the showroom to put theory into practice with individual guidance from Jenny.
Part 3
- Review – the group will then “show-and-tell” their photographs for an informal debrief.

Practicing interior designers, interior design students and professionals working in the design industry.
In this course, the tutor will primarily focus on the camera functionalities of Apple iPhones. However, other handsets will be covered to ensure a good introduction to mobile photography. During registration, please indicate the type of handset you use so that the content of the workshop can be tailored to your needs.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Jenny is the owner of Jenny Kaye Photography, a family portrait studio in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire which was established 10 years ago. She has a degree in Photography and Digital Imaging and runs Beginners’ Digital Photography courses from her studio. Her areas of expertise include corporate headshots, personal brand photography, family portraits and event photography.
