Liz Bell reflects on a productive year for the BIID

Thank you for your continuing membership of the British Institute of Interior Design. It is a pleasure to reflect on another busy and productive year for the BIID as we continue to support our members and champion professional interior design across the UK.

Our Regional Ambassador Scheme has gone from strength to strength, helping us connect with members and the wider industry across the country. This year we were delighted to see such strong engagement at regional events, including a CPD delivered in Oxford, a successful networking event in the South East, and collaborative events with RIBA in Cambridge. These initiatives are an important part of strengthening our regional communities and building relationships across the wider design industry.  From Lancashire to Scotland to Newcastle, our ambassadors have been actively promoting professional interior design and raising awareness of the value that BIID members bring to the built environment.

Our annual Inside Knowledge peer-to-peer conference returned for its second year and proved once again to be a valuable opportunity for members to share experience and insights in a collaborative environment. We were also pleased to host well-attended networking breakfasts at both the Surface Design Show and Decorex, creating opportunities for members and industry partners to connect at key moments in the design calendar.

The BIID Interior Design Awards continue to grow year on year and remain a highlight of our annual programme. The awards provide an important platform to celebrate the exceptional work being delivered by professional interior designers across the UK and internationally, and it is always inspiring to see the breadth and quality of projects submitted.

Supporting our members in practice remains central to the BIID’s work. This year we introduced a new section within the members’ area dedicated to practical templates designed to support day-to-day practice. Alongside this, we have produced a range of new resources, including guidance that breaks down Building Regulations specifically for interior designers, helping members navigate complex requirements with confidence.

We have also continued to deliver a wide range of professional development opportunities. Recent webinars have covered topics including Fee Clarity, as well as a series of sessions focused on helping designers strengthen and promote their practices. These have included How to Start and Grow Your Email List, Mastering LinkedIn for Interior Designers, and Pitching Your Projects to the Press — all designed to support members in developing successful and sustainable businesses.

As always, the BIID remains committed to advancing professionalism, integrity and excellence in interior design. None of this work would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, ambassadors, committees and council members, and I would like to thank everyone who contributes their time and expertise to the institute.

I look forward to meeting many of you at our upcoming events and continuing to support and celebrate the work of our members in the year ahead.
