ANNOUNCING THE BIID ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2016: INTERIOR IDENTITIES
The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) has revealed details of its fifth annual conference, entitled Interior Identities, which will take place on Thursday 16th June 2016 at the Royal Geographical Society in London.
Interior Identities will address the theme of identity in interior design. An impressive line-up of speakers from different disciplines will explore how the identities of people, cultures and contexts intersect with and influence our interior environments. The theme will be approached from varying perspectives, covering identities in relation to interior designers and their clients, the spaces they create and the places where these concepts are conceived.
“The BIID is delighted to announce the 2016 annual conference,” comments Daniel Hopwood, President of the BIID. “The theme of this year’s conference gives us a unique opportunity to dissect the complex concept of ‘identity’ in interior design and we hope will help our profession to understand and elevate its role in shaping the identity of place. We are looking forward to a hugely engaging, informative and entertaining day.”
Presenters for the BIID Conference will be announced in early 2016, with the event making its debut at a new venue, the magnificent London headquarters of the Royal Geographical Society, overlooking Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.
Now in its fifth year, the BIID Conference is firmly established as one of the most significant events in the design calendar. Last year’s conference marked the Institute’s landmark 50th anniversary and drew a record audience of over 250 delegates from across the design spectrum. Speakers included iconic design expert Zeev Aram OBE; Editor of Elle Decoration, Michelle Ogundehin; critic and TV presenter Tom Dyckhoff and international architect, interiors and furniture designer, Tomoko Azumi.
Interior Identities will also provide the opportunity for the Institute to present its Honorary Fellowships, created to recognise those who have had a profound impact on the development and success of the interior design profession. Last year, the BIID honoured influential design expert Zeev Aram OBE; Christine Losecaat, creative industry strategist; Kevin McCloud MBE, author, broadcaster and designer; Dids Macdonald OBE, CEO of Anti Copying in Design (ACID) and Martin Roth, the Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
