BIID Celebrates London Design Festival 2016

The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) is celebrating the 2016 London Design Festival and taking part in events across the capital. The London Design Festival is an annual event, held to promote London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community. This year’s Festival will be held 17-25 September 2016. The BIID is supporting some of the key trade shows that are taking place and BIID members will be taking part in thought-provoking and informative discussions throughout the week, as well as benefiting from a range of member benefits and special events.

BIID President Susie Rumbold comments: “London Design Festival is a remarkable celebration of London’s vibrant design scene. The BIID is delighted to once again be taking part in a wide range of activities across the capital in what promises to be an inspirational week of discovery, creativity and innovation.”

Decorex International at Syon Park

18-21 September 2016

On Monday 19th September at 2pm, BIID member Tim Gosling will be discussing “How to design and create the heritage of bespoke furniture using rare materials and the latest technology’’ at the Decorex Seminar Theatre. In this talk, Tim will be demonstrating the innovative and unusual way he uses a variety of materials in his designs.

BIID President Susie Rumbold will be chairing an engaging and informative panel discussion at the Decorex Seminar Theatre on Tuesday 20th September at 11am. Panellists include interior designer Staffan Tollgard, bespoke furniture designer Neil Stevenson of NEJ Stevenson & textile designer Margo Selby. They will be discussing “The Design Journey: How tradition, custom and culture influences the evolution of luxury design”, sharing their own creative influences and experiences of the design journey.

BIID Mentoring Sessions @ Decorex

On Tuesday 20th September at 4.30pm in the Decorex Restaurant, the BIID will be chairing a series of BIID mentoring sessions, hosted by experienced BIID members and designed to support new and emerging designers making their way in the interior design profession. These informal round-table Q&A sessions will be focussing on specific interior design sectors, including:

•         Residential – BIID President and founder of Tessuto Interiors, Susie Rumbold to chair

•         Commercial – May Fawzy of MF Design Studio to chair

•         Hospitality – Harriet Forde of HF Design to chair

•         Retail – Yentl Flo of Househam Henderson to chair

18-23 September 2016

On Sunday 18th September at 11.30am, BIID member Natalia Miyar will be taking part in the discussion; “My Life on Instagram”, hosted by Homes & Gardens Deputy Editor Giles Kime. The discussion will share expert advice on turning Instagram into an art form.

100% Design at Olympia London

21-24 September 2016

BIID President Susie Rumbold will be taking part in the seminar programme at 100% Design (in The Forum) on Saturday 24th September, taking part in a panel discussion at 16.15 on “How to Commission Design”. Alongside Director of Architectural Practice MWAI Matthew Woodthorpe and garden designer Charlotte Rowe, Susie will discuss how to effectively develop a shared vision and effective collaboration between client and designer.

Also taking place on Saturday 24th September at 16:30 (in The Auditorium), past President of the BIID Daniel Hopwood will be chairing a session called ‘Interior Design Masterclass: How to get the experience you want out of your home’. He will be joined by BIID member Ciara Langley and The 2 Lovely Gays to discuss the professional’s top tips for realising an interior design scheme that combines impressive beauty with the practicalities of your life.

designjunction at King's Cross

22-25 September 2016

On Friday 23 September, between 8.30–10.30am, BIID President Susie Rumbold will be hosting a BIID members breakfast and tour of designjunction, giving members a sneak peak at some of the show highlights. The sixth edition of the critically-acclaimed event has relocated to King’s Cross - one of London’s most exciting urban redevelopments - and presents the latest in cutting-edge design from more than 200 world-class international brands.

22-25 September 2016

On Sunday 25th September at 1pm, BIID President Susie Rumbold will be taking part in the Super Talks programme.

The talk is entitled: “Commissioning an Interior Designer: how to get the best results for your project'. Susie’s talk will highlight the advantages of working with a professional interior designer and will outline the process of appointing one. She will help demystify the process of working with an interior designer and offer an insider’s guide to getting the best results for your interior design project.
