Biid member matteo bianchi on international trends, visits and work
This year has been a striking one, with international trends coming through to British soil and vice versa. We have been fortunate this year to travel regularly –
for work and for inspiration. As our company stands for Originality and
the Unexpected – we strive on events worldwide throughout the year.
This year I visited Milan, where our debut product, the Muffin Pouffe
was exhibited. What a vibrant year it was – key trends from bold
colours, to mixed materials, re-thinking the way we live with
deconstructed furniture and a massive trend for bringing the outdoors in. Nature was prevalent.
Vibrant green living walls, textures applied to upholstery and stripped
back wooden furniture.
Whilst in Italy I made a trip to my hometown of Venice to catch up on
and project manage our Restaurant Project there which is coming along
well.
I was invited to speak this year at the annual Homes & Gardens
Spirit of Summer at Olympia about my journey as an interior designer and all about the studio I run. The response was excellent and I made some great contacts.
The up and coming city of Dubai has an ever growing interest in Interior
Design and particularly with international interest. Having taught
there at the Chelsea School of Art and Design, I was invited to speak at
this year's INDEX which hosts leading architects and designers. Whilst there we met a number of wonderful contacts,
and a potential restaurant to design. The city and people are wonderful.
